pointedly and blatantly Texas Senator Ted Cruz declined to endorse Donald Trump in a speech before the RNC last night, he was lustily boo'd by a crowd gone mad from a week of nonstop wingnut sugar highs.
I'm gonna suggest Cruz is in a tough place here, his self respect (or what he calls his self respect) prevents him from endorsing Trump, like almost every other GOP leader he is heavily invested in a Trump loss this fall.
Thats having been said, if there is a man in the GOP with MORE enemies than Donald Trump it's Ted Cruz, so its a Somerville Cinch that he won't be at the table when the "Legitimist Faction" takes over assuming The Donald goes over the hump in November.
So to keep his hopes alive, Cruz must make a play for the anti Trump evangelicals and hope for the best. He really didn't have much room to maneuver last night and it showed....it was otherwise a dismal gruesome show in every way, the crowd surly and vicious, Cruz himself smug and demagogic.

Am I to understand that the Governor of the Commonwealth
Charlie Baker is sneaking zoning easements in the current budget so that a developer whose condos abut the State House Grounds can encroach a little bit thereon on behalf of some "Au Pair Apartments" ???
Let me understand this, Charlie Baker is SUBDIVIDING the HISTORIC State House Grounds to please some Sprawl Merchant????
Mother of Ghod HANDS OFF THE STATE HOUSE GROUNDS CHARLIE!!
I don't give a rat's ass about your 70% approval rating either, this is a BAD IDEA and the Legislature should set it aside immediately and soonest!
Certain lands, parks, refuges and historical sites in this state aare bequeathed to us as a legacy held in trust for our progeny, it is the essence of poor stewardship to allow a travesty like this to happen!!
I am urging my State Rep & State Senator to Say No to This, Long and Loud.
I don't give two hoots in hell who got a donation from whom, its a bad idea!!!

Just as I predicted
Trump was nominated by RNC yesterday sans any real last minute shenanigans to deny him the top spot.
A lot of people doubled the carbon footprint of the USA on cable TV these last three months insisting there would be a bloody floor fight at the RNC, a threat which came to exactly nothing yesterday.
The skills to pull off such a coup just don't exist anymore, moreover unseating "King Primary" would mean doing some pretty awful stuff on live television something that probably gave the Antis the Jitters.
Stealing an election or even a nomination requires closed doors and the RNC has precious few of those these days.
Besides the people most opposed to Trump's candidacy are paradoxically the most indifferent to his actual nomination for President, because in turn they need him to LOSE to Hillary Clinton this fall in order for them to reassert their control over the GOP.
To La Famiglia Arbusto, Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell etc, the worst thing in the world is not that Donald Trump won the nomination fair and square (in their world "shit sometimes happens), no their nightmare is having to coexist with Trump within the GOP. Getting rid of him therefore means passive aggressively throwing Trump under the bus this fall.
My other idle prediction is that I suspect, the GOP might institute some sort of a "Super Delegates" rule at their conventions, a'la the democrats in order to provide some sort of a brake on the belligerent passions of the party's base.

Based on Last Night's Appearance before the RNC
It sure looks like Melania Trump owes The First Lady some Royalties.
I WOULD PAY GOOD MONEY to see Michelle Obama submit an invoice to Trump Tower, including her standard Attorney's "billable hours" in the total invoice amount...

Apparently...
The Police Chief of Cleveland OH politely asked the Governor (giddy, spineless John Kasich) to suspend the state's infamous"open carry statutes" during the Republican National Convention this week.
Citing the US Constitution, Kasich declined to do so....
So I think, the Chief of Police in Cleveland is well within his rights to pull all his officers OUT of the Arena on grounds of their personal safety and simply establish a security cordon around the venue out of gunshot range.
If they just did that, ya think Kasich would show up at the convention at all?
Probably not, and if he really had the courage of his second amendment convictions he'd pass out a loaded AR-15 to every delegate in order to keep things...orderly.
After all the NRA insists "An Armed Society is a Peaceful Society", so it follows than an armed RNC will be a peaceful RNC right?
RIGHT???
Anyway I feel bad for any cop on security detail at the RNC this week, forget "Black Lives Matter" it seems their own Governor is backing down on them in a crudely craven and very public fashion as well.

Valkyrie in Ankara....
The Coup Attempt against Turkish President Erdogan seems to have ended in failure this weekend. Like Stauffenberg and the Valkyrie conspirators, the Colonels lacked sufficient reliable military resources to carry off the plan, this is clearly evidenced by the fact that no attempt whatsoever was made to isolate or seize Erdogan's person was made.
Its hard to figure out who to back here, both Erdogan and the Turkish Military were in a foot race to see who could end democracy in Turkey, looks like the President won that contest this weekend.
Assuming the usual tyrannical motivations Erdogan will likely interpret this coup as a signal to accelerate the theocratization of the military and the government, in other words purge-purge-purge!
What Erdogan wants is a society dominated by Mullahs and Mosques and Holy Book and the scholars that read the book and thus control it's interpretation.
Of course...there are rumors (for the Middle East is a sort of paradise for rumor and conspiracy theories) that Erdogan himself incited this coup as an excuse to purge the officer corps once and for all....
If true then this is a far more dangerous character than we realized...he bears watching to be sure, Turkey is a NATO partner at the moment crucial to the Syrian Crisis....but I wonder, if the price of his theocratic vision required him to exit NATO...would Erdogan do it?

So I was right
Trump did pick Mike Pence as his VP candidate. From the Indiana Governor's perspective this is a low cost no brainer, if Trump loses he can align himself with the "Restorationist Faction" (roughly defined as La Famiglia Arbusto, Mitt Romney, Speaker Ryan, Mitch McConnell etc) and see if he can do some business in 2020.
If Trump somehow wins, Pence is Veep....and in either scenario he is quit on what was shaping up as an uphill reelection battle.
From Trump's perspective I wonder if some boring midwestern jobber a veep wasn't the price he has to pay for a quiet convention with no floor fight over his nomination?
I wonder, I mean it's a reasonable scenario given that the platform is already a wholesale recapitulation of conservative dogma down to remilitarizing the Rhineland, "wing nut pornography" so to speak.
In other words, I wonder if all this isn't Trump finally paying some of the political bills he ran up in the primaries?
